Valencian architect/engineer Santiago Calatrava is the favorite son of his fair city, and he has created some amazing buildings in his home town. Part of the Ciutat de les Arts i e les Cičnces (City of Arts and Sciences), the Palau de les arts was photographed December 2003, while still under construction. It is a fascinating building which I believe will contain at least two performance spaces. The sweeping curves are eye catching and the building definitely owes a debt to Jřrn Utzon's Sydney Opera House. Only when the building is finished will I be able to decide weather I like it, the other buildings that are part of the complex are interesting, but dwarf human scale, and seem like they are design for the sake of design, not motivated by function. See also my page on the science museum and planetarium that make up the rest of the complex.
