Also known as El Acueducto de las Ferreras, this ancient roman aqueduct (second century CE) is outside the Spanish beach town of Tarragona, about an hour south of Barcelona. The historic center of the city includes ruins of an ampitheatre, but the most interesting ruin, the Puente del Diable stands a few miles out of town. More than 200 meters long, and 20 odd meters high, this section of aqueduct is in the middle of a rustic infrequently visited park. It is very peaceful, and it is easy to imagine this land without highways and truck traffic. For nearly two thousand years these arches have stood. I hope they stand two thousand more.

The arches are identical in size, something like 4-5 meters wide, and varying from a few to dozens of meters tall. One section is a series of double arches.

I've visited the site twice, and hope to go again.

A beautiful place, close to my heart...
